Greggory David Kaelin, 54, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, March 10, 2025, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The Daviess County native was born October 13, 1970, to Cecilia Kaelin and the late James Francis Kaelin. Gregg graduated from Daviess County High School, class of 1989, and attended Western Kentucky University, then received a bachelor’s in fine arts (BFA) from the University of Southern Indiana. He was a very creative individual who was talented in woodworking, forging, and painting and had some of his work entered into art shows and displayed in art galleries. Gregg loved teaching middle school students about art, and they loved him. While he was a solitary man, Gregg also enjoyed going to Rendezvous where his black powder sharp shooting skills, which he learned from his mother, earned him numerous awards. Gregg served honorably in the U.S. Army before attending the University of Southern Indiana. As he approached graduation in 2009, Gregg was involved in a motorcycle accident that unfortunately left him disabled.
In addition to his father, James Kaelin, Gregg was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Katherine Payne; his paternal grandparents, A.J. and Mary Bernard Smith Kaelin; and his pet beagle, Georgia.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Cecilia “Kat” Payne Kaelin of Whitesville; sister, Christina Kaelin; step-brother and step-sister, Scott Bowman (Stacy) and Heather Edge (Paul) all of Owensboro; aunts and uncles, Patty Vowels (Jimmy) who provided respite care for Gregg, David Payne, Sheila Byrne (Steve), Becky Hester (Scott), Joe Kaelin (Roxanne), Vickie Payne, Larry Kaelin (Norma), Ron Kaelin (Becky), Mike Kaelin (Kathy), Sheila Boone (Bill), and Darlene Mann (Terry); nephew, Nick Galbraith, and numerous other cousins.
The funeral service will be at noon on Friday, March 14, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, officiated by Fr. Carl McCarthy. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 until 7:00 pm, with prayers at 6:30 pm, and Friday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be John Tindall, Jason Tindall, Logan Tindall, Mike Payne Jr., David Payne Jr., and Tony Howard.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
