Gregg W. Speer

September 6, 1956 — February 6, 2019

Gregg W. Speer, of Owensboro, was called home, February 6, 2019 surrounded by his loving family after several years of battling Multiple System Atrophy. Born
September 6, 1956 in Ridgway, Pennsylvania to the late Stuart and Joanne Speer, Owensboro, Ky became his home in 1967. He graduated from Apollo High School and Western Kentucky University. Gregg retired as a Senior Vice President from U.S. Bank after 35 years of service. He attended Christ Community Church.

Gregg was a devoted, loving husband and father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, humanitarian, coach and mentor. Through a battle he knew he would inevitably lose, he remained a strong and courageous warrior.

His favorite times were taking family vacations and adventurous traveling. From yard work, to swimming, a game of basketball, or simply sitting on the front porch, Gregg loved being outdoors. He also enjoyed family get togethers and grilling his famous burgers. If he wasn't outside, Gregg would be watching ESPN or a ballgame or anything with a scoreboard. He was a faithful fan of the UK Wildcats, Dallas Cowboys, and Pittsburg Pirates. He enjoyed taking annual trips to Dallas to catch a home game with his wife and close friends; Paul and Linda Mitchell. Win or lose he would still proudly sport his Cowboys gear. Devoted, loyal, compassionate, loving, humble and kind best describes Gregg. Everyone who knew him would definitely agree his laugh would spark a chain of laughter across the room. Through his battle he never lost his easy-going spirit nor his sense of humor. A day never ended without talking about his children and grandchildren and checking on their well-being. He enjoyed spending quality time with them every chance he had and was so proud of each one.

Through his kindness and compassion, his life was an example of how we should live each day. He never took life for granted. He lived to the fullest and loved beyond measure. His absence will undoubtedly leave an ache in our hearts and avoid in our lives. We will forever treasure the life we shared and the memories
we made together, they are all forever etched in our minds and hearts and we will always "remember when".

Those whose lives were enriched by Gregg and left to treasure his legacy and memory are his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Charlotte Buskill Speer; his children, Shawna Higgs and her husband, Shawn of Owensboro, Dr.Daniel Speer of Nashville, and Allison Speer of Owensboro; grandkids, Tyler, Teagan, Briella, Kelsey, and Harbor Higgs; a sister, Sally Payne of Owensboro; and a host of loving family including in-laws; several nieces and nephews; friends and U. S. Bank team that he kept forever in his heart.

The family wishes to thank the army that fought this battle with him; Dr. Matt Carrico and nurse Theresa Bartlett, Dr. Rejmon Dedaj, the medical staff of Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, Pastor Myke Templeton, the Christ Community Church family and all that kept him and his family in prayer.

The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Sunday and after 12:00 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
