Greg "Mayor" Garrison, 59, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, surrounded by friends and family. He was born April 28, 1958 to Glenn Ray and Joan Garrison.
Greg graduated from Caverna High School in Horse Cave, Kentucky and studied at Western Kentucky University. He was a member of Horse Cave Baptist Church. Greg retired from Dollar General Stores as District Manager after more than 25 years. He was a people person, kind and full of life. His personality was so welcoming, you couldn't help but like him. There was never a dull moment around Greg. He was never at a loss for words, he always had a good story or funny joke and was known for witty sayings. To say that Greg was an avid U.K. Basketball fan would be an understatement. He was the definition of a loyal fan and had a U.K. dedicated man cave to prove it. He was very resilient, energetic, and sociable. Greg loved to cook and would often invite his friends and family over to enjoy his backyard barbecue skills. He was a very knowledgeable "car guy" who loved his 442 Oldsmobile and his red Jeep. The phrase "go big or go home" was a good way to describe how Greg lived his life. If you never met him, you truly missed out on an amazing guy and friend.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Ray Garrison; grandparents, Rex and Dorothy Bailey; grandfather, Noble Garrison; and grandmother, Lillian Garrison Bristow.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jennifer Meredith Garrison of Owensboro; a daughter, Ashley Stephens (Adam) of Owensboro; son, Bryan Colby Garrison of Owensboro; his mother, Joan Garrison in Horse Cave, KY; his grandson, Taytum "Little Man" Stephens (who called Greg "Bops"); his brother, David Garrison (Marsha) of Louisville, KY; his aunt, Doris Garrison of Horse Cave, KY; his uncle, Rex L. Bailey; niece, Chelsea Garrison; and nephew, Trenton Garrison.
The funeral service will be 2PM Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 3-8PM Monday and 12 noon until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
