Grace Lee Bickel, 85, of Owensboro died in her home on Sunday morning, April 19, 2009. Born in Shelbyville, KY on February 19, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Sarah Mae Tipton Parker; graduated from Corydon High School in Indiana; and was a homemaker.
Dr. J. Edmund Bickel, her late husband, declared "she is the best cook in the world!" And recently, she stated that she "enjoyed everything about motherhood, including sewing and gardening." Mrs. Bickel enjoyed serving the Lord by teaching Bible study classes for over 60 years. She was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bickel is survived by a daughter, Sandra Lawson; a son, John Bickel, Jr. and his wife Lauren; grandchildren, Emily and Tim Bickel; her siblings, Nora Hilyard, Ruth Tyler, Kenneth Parker, Mary J. Powell and Virginia Gooding; and sisters-in-law, Mary Catherine Harper, Jeanette Parker, and Evelyn Parker.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009, at Glenn Funeral Home followed by burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and after 1 p.m. on Thursday.
