Golda Mae McDaniel, 100, went to be with the Lord and to be rejoined with her family, on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born on March 31,2012 in Daviess county to the late William P. Young and Laura Pearl Cummings Young. ''Pearl'' Young passed away when Golda was a small child so she was raised by her father who, in her words, ''sacrificed and worked hard to keep the family together.'' She was definitely a ''Daddy's girl'' until she fell in love and married Herbert A. McDaniel. After 17 years of marriage she then became the proud mother of Dexter McDaniel. Dexter brought her 24 years of joy and happy memories before he lost his battle with Hodgkin's disease on August 26,1970.
Golda lived a long and wonderful life because of her faith in God, her dedication to First Christian Church and her positive attitude. Besides being a devoted wife and mother, she worked as a nurses aid at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital from 1954 -1977. After she retired, she worked for various families, sitting with aging parents and loved ones. As demonstrated in her life, she was thoughtful, caring and committed to others. She had a charming wit, contagious sense of humor but above all was indeed a ''proper lady.''
Golda was preceded in death by her parents, William and L. Pearl Young; her husband, Herbert McDaniel; her son, Dexter; her siblings Gertrude Young; Oscar Young (Gertrude), Edward Young (Carmel), and France Young Cline; her nephew, Ronald Young, Winterpark, FL.
Survivors include her dear friend and care-giver, Diane Brancato, her niece, Patricia Young Kelley, Bowling Green, KY; nephews, Wayne (Chris) Young, Omaha, NE, Edward Young, Maryland Heights, MO, Gary Young. Evansville, IN, and James (Virgie) McDaniel, Owensboro, KY, and many great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with the Rev. Rebekah Krevens. First Christian Church, officiating. Visitation is from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and after 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund.
