Glover H. (Sonny) Cary

November 4, 1923 — January 18, 2016

Glover H. (Sonny) Cary, Jr., 92, of Owensboro, died January 18, 2016, at Elmcroft at Oaklawn in Louisville. He was born in McLean County to the late Glover H. Cary, Sr. and Elizabeth Miller Cary. Sonny began his career in 1950 at Texas Gas as a field clerk working on the pipeline, moving then to Safety Engineer and then to the Housing Department. As manager of Industrial Development he was elected as President of the Southern Development Council. Sonny lectured at Oklahoma University for the Business Department before beginning his roll in Governmental Affairs, where he lobbied in Frankfort and Nashville before retiring in 1985. Sonny was later hired as a consultant for Texas Gas, Columbia Gas and AT&T. In 1991 he retired to go to work full time for Marty. Sonny was a member of the PU Band where he was well known for his saxophone and dance routine to "Pennies from Heaven". He was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class. Sonny was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha (Marty) Tanner Cary; and his siblings William Ree Cary, Sara Ghee Miller, Elizabeth Triplett and Helen Snyder.

Survivors include his son, Glover H. Cary, III of Rockport, IN; his daughter, Mary Ghee Cary Law and her husband Dale of Louisville; his grandchildren, Kim Cary McGurk and her husband Mike, Marty Law Nichter and her husband Jonathan, Glover H. Cary, IV and his wife Megan, Cary Law Mahl and her husband Jason, and Melanie Cary; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at Noon Saturday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Settle Memorial United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Hospice of Western Kentucky or the Alzheimer's Association.
