Glenda Newton Simmons, 60, of Owensboro passed away Friday, October 16, 2009 at Hillcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Fordsville on April 7, 1949, Mrs. Simmons was a hairdresser for more than 30 years; a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church; and enjoyed gardening and was a wonderful cook. She also enjoyed oldies music and dancing.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Darrell Stephen Simmons; daughters, Robin (Steve) LeCates, Amy (Brian) Forrest, and Tara Simmons all of Owensboro; step-sons, Benjamin (Paulie) Simmons and Tim (Christa) Simmons of Owensboro; her parents, Charles and Margaret Rice Newton of Owensboro; grandchildren, Jarron Owens, Chelsea Simmons, Taylor Simmons, and Hanna Forrest; a sister, Charlotte (Doil) Stogner of Reed; and brothers, Charles Newton. Jr. and Steve (Robyn) Newton all of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 12 noon Monday, October 19, 2009 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Tim Hall officiating followed by burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday and after 9 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
