Gerald Riney

September 3, 1920 — June 4, 2005

Joseph Gerald Riney, 84, of 702 Griffith Avenue, Owensboro died Saturday, June 4, 2005 at his home. Born in West Louisville, KY, a son of the late William Gerald and Mary Merimee Riney, he was a graduate of West Louisville High School and attended Brescia College. During World War II, Mr. Riney served in the Navy Seabees in the South Pacific, as part of the Okinawa, Bougainville, New Hebrides, and Russell Island campaigns. A civil engineer and partner with Johnson, Depp, and Quisenberry, he retired in 1985 following 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Bettye Reisz Riney; five daughters, Rosemary Thompson (Bill) of Owensboro, Jo Ann Spath (Don) and Susan Clifford (Wally) both of Louisville, Carol Schuenemeyer (David) of Atlanta, and Jeanne Riney of Dallas; two sons, Dan Riney (Kim) of Owensboro and John Riney (Janie) of Houston; eight grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas Marnell Riney and Jospeh C. Riney both of Owensboro, and two sisters, Mary Catherine Pfister of Louisville and Patricia Ann Riney of Owensboro.

Services are at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen Cathedral. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday and from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home where prayers will be said at p.m. Monday. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Ohio Valley.
