Gerald Wayne Phillips, 68 , of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Muhlenberg County on August 16, 1942, he was the son of the late Albert J. Phillips and Julia A. Wilkerson Phillips Moore; had worked for K-Mart and for the Owensboro Board of Education; and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and attended Phillips Chapel. Mr. Phillips enjoyed visiting people, trading and swapping, and word puzzles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Roger Phillips and Edward Earl Phillips.

Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Patsie West Phillips; a daughter, Julie (Charlie) Hawkins of Owensboro; grandchildren, David Phillips, Justin Phillips, Tristian Howard, Brittney Quinn, Hillary Phillips, and Jessica Kirby; sisters, Betty Stinnett, Shirley (Euria) Wood, and Reba Ford of Owensboro; and brothers, Don Phillips of Evansville and J.V. (Arleen) Phillips of Owensboro.

Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011 in the Chapel at Rosehill Cemetery followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Kidney Foundation.
