Gerald David Payne

Gerald "Jerry" David Payne, 62, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Owensboro Medical Health System after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Owensboro on July 20, 1946 and was a 1964 graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School. He retired from Premium Allied Tool after 39 years of service. He was also a past member of the National Guard. He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Payne in 1990, a sister Carroll Kaelin in 1964, a brother, Kenny Payne in 1981, a brother-in-law, Philip Thompson in 2005 and a sister-in-law, Gina Thompson in 2003.


Jerry was a loving and devoted husband who cherished his wife Becky of 39 years. He was also the loving father of two daughters Leigh Ann and Sara who were his pride and joy. He enjoyed being around many of his close friends who shared his love of camping and fishing. You could often find him tinkering around in his workshop and watching old westerns.

Survivors include his wife Becky of 39 years; daughters, Leigh Ann Weisser and her husband Garey and their three children, Garrett, Macey and Avery of Calhoun, KY and Sara Payne and her husband Mika and their three children Cody, Carson and Tavis of Georgetown, KY. He is also survived by his mother, Lucille Payne, and a sister Dorothy Tipmore both of Owensboro; a brother Gordon Payne and his wife Lydia of Calhoun, KY; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Alberta Hagan, sister-in-law, Sandy Thompson, and brother-in-law Bill Thompson and his wife Debbie.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Monday and after 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home where prayers will be said at 7 p.m. on Monday.
