Gerald G. Mccarty

Gerald McCarty, Sr., 71, of 1023 East 20th Street, Owensboro, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at Hermitage Nursing Home. He was born in Daviess County, Kentucky on June 27, 1931 the son of Joseph and Mary Molohon McCarty. He was preceded in death by a son, Little Tommy McCarty on May 6, 1958 and a daughter, Theresa McCarty on September 19, 1957.

Mr. McCarty retired after 17years from maintenance for Catholic Consolidated School System. He was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church, Holy Name Society and St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a Eucharist Minister and an Alter Server. He assisted in Marriage Encounters, was a Couples Sponser, and helped with Parrish Picnics. He was a winner of the Sophia Award and loved gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen Wathen McCarty; two sons, Jim McCarty of Louisville, KY and Tom McCarty, Jr. of Pleasant Ridge, KY; five daughters, JoAnn Bradley of Stanley, KY, Angela McCarty and Susan McRoy, both of Owensboro, Helen McCarty of Nashville, TN and Lisa Schwartz of Pleasant Ridge; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Louis McCarty and Jerome McCarty, both of Curdsville, KY, and Norbert McCarty of Friendly Village, KY; and one sister, Mary Catherine Rumage of Owensboro.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2003 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church, officiated by Father Freddie Byrd. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003 and after 9:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Prayers will be said at 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
