Gerald L. “Jerry” Hamilton, 84, of Owensboro, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Chautauqua Health and Rehabilitation while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born September 11, 1939 in Daviess County to the late Richard and Frances Alvey Hamilton. Jerry was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and retired from the Owensboro Fire Department as a Captain. He loved spending time with family and friends especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jerry enjoyed horseback riding, camping, piddling around the farm. He was always the life of the party and would do anything for anybody. Jerry was a U. S. Navy veteran having served from 1957 until 1960.
Jerry lost his wife, Elizabeth on November 16, 2023, one day after he passed away. Others that preceded Jerry in death was a son, Terry Hamilton in 1980, a son-in-law, Danny Millay in 2017, a daughter-in-law, Shannon Hamilton in 2019, a sister, Bonnie Harmon, a brother, Jim Hamilton and wife Sharon, a sister-in-law, Sherry Hamilton, and stepmother, Lucille Hamilton.
Surviving are a son, Kevin Hamilton and a daughter, Debbie Millay, both of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Holly Davis (Brian) of Philpot, Courtney Martin of Utica, Alex Hamilton (Ann-Michael) of Owensboro, Austin Hamilton (Ashley) of Owensboro, and Landon Hamilton of Owensboro; five great grandchildren, Kinsley Martin, Rhett and Annslee Hamilton, and Mallory and Collin Davis; two sisters, Barbara (Junior) Stinnett of Florida and Brenda (Allen) Ramsey of Henderson; four brothers, Don Hamilton of Owensboro, Richard (Becky) Hamilton of Evansville, Bob (Patty) Mercer of Las Vegas, and Buddy (Mildred) Bruner of Texas.
The funeral mass for Elizabeth and Jerry will be 11 AM Tuesday, November 21, at St. Martin Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 PM until 6 PM Monday with prayers at 6 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and from 10 AM until time of the mass Tuesday at St. Martin’s.
