Georgetta Wilson Madole, 95, of Owensboro, Kentucky passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017 at her home with her family by her side. She was born June 1, 1921 in Owensboro. She grew up on a farm in western Daviess County and was the daughter of the late, Judge James R. Wilson and Katherine Shauntee Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Franklin Madole and her brother, James G. Wilson of Sorgho.
She is survived by two sons, James Wilson Madole of Owensboro, KY, John Davis Madole, Sr. and his wife, Teresa R. Madole, two granddaughters, Katherine Elizabeth Madole and Rachel Anne Madole, and grandson, John Davis Madole, Jr. all from Nashville, TN.
Mrs. Madole was a 1939 graduate of Owensboro Senior High School. She attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana from 1939 to 1941 and graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education.
She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Owensboro, as were her parents. She began singing in the church choir when in high school and continued doing so for 70 years. She was a Deacon and Elder (Emeritus) of the Church, taught Sunday school and served on various church committees.
She also sang with the Owensboro Symphony Chorus and Orchestra for several years. Mrs. Madole was a member of the Saturday Musicale for nearly 50 years, the Community Concert Association for 30 years, and, the Hospital Guild (now the Women's Guild) for 25 years. She was a founding Board Member of the Hospitality House of Owensboro, a founding member of the Sewing Club, and a former member of the Cotillion Club and its successor the Junior League of Owensboro.
Mrs. Madole loved to sing and play piano, cook, and entertain guests at dinner parties. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge and caring for her flower and rose garden in the country.
She was a loving and caring Mom to her two sons, dearly loved her daughter-in-law, Teresa, thinking of her as her own daughter. Mrs. Madole treasured her three grandchildren, Katie, Rachel and John Jr. She loved encouraging them and watching them grow and develop.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 12:00 noon Wednesday. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the memorial fund of First Christian Church.
