Attorney and former judge George Vest Triplett, III of Owensboro died Thursday, July 28, 2007 at Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Billings Montana, a son of the late George V. Triplett and Elizabeth Hathhorn Triplett, he was a graduate of Centre College and the University of Louisville Law School. A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Triplett served on a destroyer escort, primarily in the South Pacific. A law clerk for the late Federal Judge Wilbur K. Miller in Washington, DC in 1951, Mr. Triplett later served in Frankfort as Assistant Attorney General and with the Legislative Research Commission. He returned to Owensboro to establish private practice in 1956 and served as District Judge for Daviess County from 1978 until 1986. Mr. Triplett was a member of First Presbyterian Church, former president of the Welfare League, an artist, and an avid reader. He held a strong interest in local and Kentucky history and was a former member of the Investigators Club. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Alice Nofcier Triplett, and his brothers, Henry Armstrong Triplett and Frederick Hathhorn Triplett.
Mr. Triplett is survived by his wife, Evelyn Nofcier Triplet; his son, George V. Triplett, IV and his wife Lori of Owensboro; his daughters, Nan Braden and her husband Alan of Owensboro and Margaret Daniel and her husband Roger of Georgetown, KY; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; his sister, Betsy McGehee of Spartanburg, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Rev. Jonathan Carroll. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home. Private interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial funds of First Presbyterian Church, Centre College, or the charity of ones choice.
