Pastor George Edward Sebree, 84, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2007 at his residence. He was born on February 11, 1923 in Todd County, Kentucky, to the late Ernest and Emma Cobb Sebree. The third son of nine children he accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 13 at the Little Union Baptist Church. Pastor Sebree joined the New Hope Baptist Church in Evansville, IN in 1945 where he served as a Deacon. He was called into the ministry in August of 1956 and served with the Rev. W.R. Brown, Sr. until he was called to pastor the Green Ridge Baptist Church in Henderson County in 1957. After serving there for four years he served as an assistant to Pastor J.R. Buckner and then as pastor of the First Baptist Meacham Park in Kirkwood, MO. He served there for twenty years before being called to Fourth Street Baptist church in 1982. Pastor Sebree retired from Fourth Street Baptist in April of 2007 after 24 years of service. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ella Mae Sebree, and by his sister, Earline Sebree, and his brothers, Jesse Sebree, Frank Sebree, Robert Sebree and W.B. Sebree.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Sebree; children, Barbara Brown and her husband Charley of San Diego, CA and George Sebree, Jr. and his wife Phyllis of St. Louis, MO; step-children, Allen Chester of Newburgh, IN, Robert Chester, Diane Chester and Ella Herd all of Evansville, IN and Joy Randle and her husband Michael of Indianapolis, IN; brothers, Owen D. Sebree and his wife Mattie of Denver, CO and James Sebree and his wife Shirley of Toledo, Oh; sister, Pearline Sebree of Evansville, IN; 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Friday, November 23, at 11 a.m. at Fourth Street Baptist Church in Owensboro. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until time of service on Friday. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Garden.
