Dr. George Alney Howard, 87, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012. He was born in McLean Co., KY on March 19, 1925 to the late Goodman and Lillian Keplinger Howard. Dr. Howard served our country in the U. S. Navy in World War II on a Destroyer Escort in the Pacific Theater. Upon graduation from Western Kentucky University, he attended and graduated from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Owensboro for 43 years. Dr. Howard was a member of the Kentucky Dental Association for 54 years and received the honor of a Kentucky Colonel for his volunteer work at the Wendell Foster Center. He was a life member of the Destroyer-Escort Sailors Association and a member of the American Legion. Dr. Howard was a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years and he loved gardening and bird watching.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Nancy Norris Howard and his only child, George David Howard and his fiance Sheila Y. Shively. He is also survived by his sister, Jeanette Green, two brothers-in-law, Louis Ray Norris and Wayne Bell, and his close friends Dan and Joyce Shuler and Jean Dubber.
There will be no visitation or services. Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory are in charge of arrangements.
The family asks that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter, 6100 Dutchmans Lane, Suite 401, Louisville, KY 40205.
