George Emil Hardesty, 81, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2024, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born in Whitesville on April 11, 1942, to the late Samuel “Fonce” and Della Boarman Hardesty.

George completed his education at Trinity High School in Whitesville and proudly served in the US Army. He dedicated over four decades to working as a lab technician for Owensboro Municipal Utilities before retiring. Throughout his career, he remained deeply involved with the United Way. As a devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus, he found strength in his faith.

George cherished moments spent with his family, relished watching UK basketball, and enjoyed a good laugh from comedies, often favoring those by Mel Brooks. His passion extended to playing the guitar and nurturing his yard and garden.

Everyone who had the honor of knowing George will deeply feel his absence.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Thomas Hardesty, Gerald Hardesty, Frank Hardesty, Dot Mattingly, and Norman Hardesty.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Brenda Corley Hardesty;  children, Timothy Scott Hardesty (Melissa), Cathy Hardesty, and Bob Hardesty; granddaughter, Amanda Hardesty Webb (Jeremy); great-grandson,  Parker Graham Webb; brothers, Joseph Clifford Hardesty, Kenneth Hardesty, and Victor Hardesty; sister, Emma Lee Fulkerson; and a whole host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The funeral Mass will be at 11 am Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 2 pm until 7 pm Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with prayers at 6:30 pm. Visitation on Thursday will be from 8:30 until 10:30 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow Mass at Resurrection Cemetery.

Expression of sympathy may take the form of contributions to his wife, Brenda Hardesty.
