George Hancock, 89, of Owensboro died on Monday, November 6, 2017 at his home with his family present. Mr. Hancock was born in Sulligent, Alabama to the late George and Florence Burt Hancock. George retired from the phone company after 37 years as a service technician and was trained in electrical engineering. He loved the outdoors and spending time fishing, camping, boating, and gardening. Mr. Hancock was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Church and served the congregation in many ways. Most of all, George loved his wife and was a devoted husband and caregiver.
Mr. Hancock is also preceded in death by his son, David Hancock in January of this year.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lucille Heep Hancock; sons, Robert Hancock of Leitchfield and Kenneth Hancock of Louisville; step-daughters, Mary Anderson and husband Gil of Arlington, Nebraska and Janet Evans and husband Harry of Owensboro; step-sons, Dennis Brown and Robert Hadden both of Owensboro; 3 grandchildren: Ricky and Lance Hancock and Megan Baird; 7 great grandchildren; his loyal Maltese friend, Sugar; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 am Friday, November 10 at Glenn Funeral Home Crematory with Pastor Mike Cisneros officiating. Visitation will be Thursday 4 till 7 pm and Friday after 9 am at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
