George Alexander Fulenwider, Jr., 86, of Owensboro, passed away at home October 26, 2017. He was born on September 23, 1931 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma to the late George Alexander Fulenwider and Mabel Odessa Stanton.
After high school, George entered the U.S. Navy on November 10, 1948. He was awarded a Korean Service Medal (two stars), China Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal. After military, he studied criminal law and criminal evidence at San Diego Junior College in Chula Vista, CA where he began his career as a deputy sheriff in Orange County, CA. His career went in many directions. After leaving the sheriff's office, he became a truck driver. He drove box trucks and big rigs across the country and he owned his own dump truck business until September 2016. He was an entrepreneur having owned an art gallery, arcade, restaurant, tower painting business, taxicab business and an automotive propane conversion business. His number one hobby was flying. He owned three different planes and qualified for solo flying two of them. George was able to achieve his life-long dream of flying solo in his beloved Cessna 150 at the age of 84.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Sue Fulenwider.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne; two sons, George Alexander and Karl Lloyd, both of California; a special niece, Debbie Fitzgerrel of Reed. He had many stepchildren. He cared and loved David (Tammy) Hardesty, Jennifer (David) Daniel, and Holly (Tellie) Terrell; grandchildren, Kristen (Billy)Hawes, Hannah Hardesty, Alexis, Hailey, Kaleb and Tyler Daniel, and Jason Smith.
The service will be 3pm Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 11am until 3 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
