George Edward “Eddie” Hatfield, 66, of Owensboro, peacefully entered the gates of heaven at his home Thursday, August 20th. He was born to the late Woodrow and Patricia Hatfield on December 19th, 1959.
Eddie graduated from Daviess County High School in 1978. Shortly after, he started working for Texas Gas where he would work for the next 36 years.
Eddie was a sweet, kindhearted, happy man who never met a stranger. He loved people, especially his family. He would do anything for his wife, children and grandchildren and would never turn down a stranger in need. “Poppy”, as he was known later in his life, especially adored his youngest granddaughter, Emma Grace. If they weren’t playing on the floor, she was falling asleep in his lap as he gently patted her head. Even as his body began to lose its strength, his soul would light up when he saw her. Even more than people, Eddie loved Jesus. He read his bible meticulously, making notes and highlighting certain scriptures he found particularly inspiring. His bible will now serve as a treasured family heirloom. Though his family will miss him dearly, they are comforted by the fact that he is free of suffering and surrounded by the love of God.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” - 2 Timothy 4:7
Eddie also loved NFL football, UK basketball, racquetball, car shows, watching his two sons play golf and reading his morning newspaper. Eddie is preceded in death by his mother, Pat; father, George; and son, Kyle.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Becky; son Jared (Kristen), daughter, Laura Hayden; sister Stephanie Horn (Kevin) and a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Hospice of Western Kentucky who helped keep Eddie comfortable in his final days.
A Funeral service for Eddie will be held Sunday, August 23rd at Glenn Funeral home at 4 pm. Visitation will be from 1-4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Eddie to Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro KY 42301 or Alzheimer’s Association, KY Chapter, One Oxmoor Place, 101 Bullitt Lane, Suite 208, Louisville KY 40222
