George Paul Demeter

June 12, 1921 — May 2, 2001

George Paul Demeter, 79, of 2701 Frederica Street, Owensboro, Kentucky, died Wednesday, May 02, 2001 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. Born in Maryland on June 12, 1921, he was the son of the late Michael Demeter and Suzanna Joleck Demeter. Mr. Demeter was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. Schroader Demeter on April 12, 2000.

Mr. Demeter was retired from Alcoa Aluminum Co. after 21 years. He had been attending Walnut Memorial Baptist Church and was a member of United Steel Workers Assoc. Local # 104. Mr. Demeter was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and taught Hungarian refugees English in 1957 here at Brescia, and was a Kentucky Colonel.

He is survived by one son, Michael Demeter of Owensboro; three daughters, Darlene Rowe of Jonesboro, TX, Stacy Frey and Donna Demeter both of Owensboro; five grandchildre; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Demeter of Jonesboro, TX, Andy Demeter of Okeechobee, FL; and one sister, Helen Bennett of Paintsville, OH.

His family will receive friends at Glenn Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2001 and after 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 4. The funeral service for Mr. Demeter will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2001 at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery.
