George Thomas Clark

George Thomas Clark, 90, of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at home surrounded by family. He was born August 1, 1922, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to the late Gilmore Thomas and Mary Martine Merimee Clark.
He is also preceded in death by his loving wife, Marie Margaret Fischer Clark; his grandson, Matthew Victor Clark; his 4 brothers, Wilfred Clark, Robert Clark, Wayne Clark, and Richard Clark; and his sister, Marilyn Clark Holder.
He was a devoted husband for 63 years to the love of his life, Marie. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the US Navy Sea Bees in the South Pacific and in China. He retired from the United States Postal Service with over 30 years of service. He then served as the Alcohol Beverage Control Director for a number of years.
He was a charter member of Immaculate Catholic Church, an active member with the Democratic Party for many years, and an avid gardener.
He was a man of quiet strength, always making sure everyone was taken care of, anticipating the needs of others. A loving grandfather, he was always there to chauffer, attend sporting events and to teach his grandchildren about life. For the last few years he enjoyed visiting his little buddy Ben.
He is survived by his four children, Thomas G. Clark (Lynn) of Dexter, Michigan, Christine Clark Aull (Steve) and Kathleen "Kass" Clark ( formerly Bohannon) both of Owensboro and Mark A. Clark(Fonda) of Collierville, Tennessee; his brother, Paul E. Clark(Ruth Carr) of Owensboro; his eight grandchildren, Jennie Clark, Rachel Aull, Jessie Bohannon, Chris Bohannon, Kasey Bohannon Sharpe (Michael), Steffan Clark (Mary), Karly Clark, and Christian Clark; his four great-grandchildren, Kayla Clark, Kyle Clark, Ben Bohannon, and Ellie Sharpe, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM Monday at Immaculate Catholic Church, with Father Tony Jones as celebrant. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 until 6:00PM on Sunday, with a prayer service at 5:30PM.
