George I. Birkhead

George I. Birkhead, 74, of 4506 Loftwood Drive, Owensboro, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born January 21, 1927 in Daviess County, Kentucky the son of the late James C. and Catherine Heady Birkhead, Sr.

Mr. Birkhead was a builder, developer and real estate investor. He founded Birkhead Custom Homes, was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and retired from Owensboro Fire Department. He was an army veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Spinal Cord Society. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Eva M. Birkhead; two sons, Jim Birkhead and Joe Birkhead, both of Owensboro; two daughters, Josanna LaMastus and Jennifer B. Clark, both of Owensboro; eight grandchildren; a brother, Thomas C. Birkhead of Cocoa Beach, FL, and a sister, Fladge Teresa Hagan of Owensboro.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2001 at St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro, officiated by Father Leonard Alvey. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. His family will receive friends at Glenn Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2001 and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Prayers will be said at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
