George S. Barker

George S. Barker, 90, of Owensboro, stepped onto the shores of Heaven, Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from the Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on February 13, 1921 in Pellville, to the late Ivory Barker and Zillie (Corley) Barker. He served in the US Army as an engine mechanic, worked in the oil fields, Daniels Construction, and Clark Security at Pinkerton Tobacco. Mr. Barker enjoyed spending time with his family, UK basketball, wrestling, Atlanta Braves, and fishing. He was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church and was a loving husband, daddy, papaw, and great-granddaddy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Tina Pearl (Crowe) Barker, a brother, Floyd Barker; eight sisters, Amy Sinnett, Gracie Cain, Sadie Cain, Effie Garett, Francis Cain, Eunice Shultz, Lena Barker, and Ethel Barker; a grandson, Christopher Duncan; and a son-in-law, Harold Decker.

Surviving are his sons, George E. Barker and wife Ruth, Larry E. Barker and wife Sharon, and Virgil D. Barker and wife Sandy, all of Owensboro, three daughters, Brenda K. Duncan and husband Franklin of Reynolds Station, Linda F. Decker of Owensboro, and Sharon A. Wilson and husband David of Utica; 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren; and a brother, Ernest Virgil Barker of Peoria, IL.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Greenbrier Baptist Church Cemetery in Utica. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 9:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
