Gene Ann Gleim Young Prosser died Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri. She was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, on August 25, 1937 to Delbert and Geneva Johnson Gleim. She attended Owensboro public schools, graduated in 1955, and continued her education at Western Kentucky University.
Gene Ann married Robert Reed Young, Jr., of Brandenburg, Kentucky, in 1957. They had two children, Katherine Ann and Sarah Gene. The family moved from Owensboro to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Mr. Young died there in 1970, at which time Gene Ann and her daughters returned to Owensboro.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts in speech and hearing from Brescia College, Gene Ann worked for the colleges Speech and Hearing Center as an educator of deaf children. She later completed a masters degree from Western Kentucky University and served in various positions at Brescia for 23 years. She was the director of Brescias Weekend College until the spring of 1998.
Gene Ann married James Prosser on July 25, 1998. They were married at Zion United Church of Christ, where Gene Ann was a long-time member. The couple moved to Springfield, Missouri, to retire and to pursue college administration work part-time. While in Springfield she attended St. Johns Chapel United Church of Christ.
Her husband, James, of Springfield, survives Gene Ann. Two daughters also survive her, Katherine Howard and her husband Jack Howard, Jr. of Edmond, Oklahoma and Sarah Walkington and her husband Jeffrey Walkington of Davidson, North Carolina. Four grandchildren, Nina and Jack Howard, III of Edmond, OK and Ellen and John Walkington of Davidson, NC also survive her.
Visitation begins at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2002 in the Sanctuary of Zion United Church of Christ in Owensboro. A funeral service will be held there at 12:00, the Reverend John F. Schroeder officiating. Internment at Memorial Gardens follows the service.
