Gene Marksberry, 79, of Utica passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Ohio County on April 28, 1932, he was the son of the late Harvey Marksberry, Sr. and Ella Birkhead Horrell Marksberry; retired from Local 181 of the International Union of Operating Engineers as the business manager of the union; and was a member of the Utica United Methodist Church. Mr. Marksberry was a good liberal democrat who faught hard for the working man and moved up through the union from mechanic to business agent to business manager. He enjoyed playing the piano, fishing, boating, and UK basketball. He loved his family dearly and was a friend to many. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Sam Marksberry and John David Marksberry, and sisters, Betty Shelton, Mary Lee Poole, Peggy Jeffers, and Rachel Kirtley.
Surving is his wife of 60 years, Sarah Hall Marksberry; children, Sandra Jean Marksberry of Hatfield, Ronald Lee Marksberry of Louisville, Peggy Marksberry Hunter of Pleasant Ridge, Steven Todd Marksberry of Hatfield, and Jennifer Dyan (Eddie) Fulkerson of Greenville; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Harvey (Marilyn) Marksberry, Jr. of Russelville, Paul (LeAnn) Marksberry of Morgantown, and Jack (Joyce) Marksberry of Pleasant Ridge; and a sister, Mildred Crowe of Owensboro.
Services are 12 noon Friday, May 20, 2011 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Park Lawn Cemetery in Evansville. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday and after 10 a.m. on Friday.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky.
