Gene Franklin Hein

December 19, 1925 — October 8, 2012

Gene Franklin Hein, 86, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Carmel Home. Born in Daviess County December 19, 1925, he was the son of the late Frank and Anna Froehlich Hein; was retired from South Central Bell; delivered flowers for Jenny Lynn Florist; and was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church. Mr. Hein was a Navy veteran of World War II. A great father and provider, Mr. Hein was a witty man, always ready to share a joke with friends. He also enjoyed working in the yard, running errands for anyone who needed something, and was a member of several world problem solvers clubs at Hardees, McDonalds and other meeting places. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Hein in 2001 and a brother, William "Bill" Hein in 2006.

Surviving are children, Gregory Hein of Louisville, John Hein, Betsy (Rick) Jones, and Carrie Hein of Owensboro; granddaughters, Emily (Dane) Morris of Owensboro, Lindsay (Ryan) Abel of Italy, Meredith Hein of Charleston, SC, Carrie Beth (Matt) Andres of Jeffersonville, IN, and Abigail Hein of Owensboro; a great-grandson, Oliver Andres; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 1 P.M. Thursday, October 11, 2012 in the Carmel Home Chapel officiated by Father Tony Jones with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with prayers at 7 p.m. and after 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Carmel Home.
