Gene Walter Fort

Gene Fort, 78, of Owensboro passed away September 3, 2016, at his home. Gene was born on March 20, 1938, in Winona, MN to the late Calvin and Emma Rosine Fort. Gene was heavily involved in the Owensboro Lions Club and was a benefactor of Owensboro Lions Club Soap Box Derby Track. He also enjoyed working in his garden raising vegetables and watching the Dallas Cowboys, "America's Team", play whenever he could.
Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Hanning Fort; brothers, Donald Fort, Earl Fort, Arnold Fort, and Jimmy Fort; sisters, Blanch Malusky, Deloris Beck, and Catherine Bjerke.
Surviving is wife Mary Lou Lebold Fort; sons Mike Fort and Steve Fort; sister, Mary Peterson (Par); stepsons, Ernie Lohman and Louis Lohman; 3 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to The Owensboro Lions Club or a charity of choice.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:30 pm Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. There will be a private burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
