Gaylen L. Jones, 80, of Owensboro, passed away on Monday October 11, 2010 at Owensboro Medical Health System surrounded by his family. He was born on May 11, 1930 in Muhlenburg Co., to the late Altha (Bill) and Marjorie Noffsinger Jones. He was a faithful member of First General Baptist Church for over 50 years. He retired from Green River Steel in 1985 after working for over 30 years. He enjoyed working on cars and owned Jones Auto Sales in Owensboro after his retirement. Gaylen had a cabin at Rough River and loved taking his family there and to Lake Malone where they enjoyed fishing and boating. He also loved going to all the grandchildrens and great grandchildrens activities and spending time with all the family. He was a member of the Monsarrat Masonic Lodge # 379 in Panther for over 25 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathryn Wright and a son-in-law, Billy Daugherty.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 60 years, Robbie Nell Jones, three children, Rhonda Daugherty, Kaye (Steve) Curry, and Mike Jones, all of Owensboro, grandchildren, Carrie (Dave) Gerkin, Ryan Curry, and Matt (Katie) Curry, all of Owensboro, Jenny (Jason) Koger of Utica, and Michael (Tyler) Daugherty of Lexington, great grandchildren, David Michael Gerkin, Jozie Gerkin, Billie Grace Koger, Cambell Koger, and Owen Daugherty, four brothers, Lindel (Phyllis) Jones, Ron (Bobbe) Jones, and David (Carol) Jones, all of Owensboro, and Jim (Minnie) Jones of Lewisport, two sisters, Diane (Larry) Littell of Lake Station, IN and Shirley (Don) Brant of Valparaiso, IN, brother-in-law, Frank Wright of Owensboro, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, and many loving friends too numerous to list.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 16 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of First General Baptist Church, 620 Maple Ave., Owensboro, Ky. 42301.
