Gary McElwain

Gary D. "Mac" McElwain, 59, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Daviess Co. to the late Henry and Margaret McElwain. He had been the owner of his own Flea Market. He enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash music, feeding the birds and squirrels in his yard, watching John Wayne movies, playing bingo, collecting tools and knives, and holding his wife Connie's hand while sitting in their swing and enjoying the outdoors. He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Janice McCoy, Phyllis Ann McElwain, Pearl Boulware, Royce Henry and Billy McElwain, and nieces and nephews, Hope Ann McElwain, Tammy Miller, Debbie Kidd, and Josh Miller.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Connie, daughters, Francis (Ronnie) Rice, Jr., Tosia (Steve) Barnett, and Shanan (Charles) Owen, all of Owensboro, eight grandchildren, Virginia, Garrett, and Sabrina Durbin, Amber and Zachary Blackburn, and Michael Price and Aaron and Jessica Owen, a brother, Darrell (Sharon) McElwain of Owensboro, two sisters, Louise Wilson of W. Va. and Janie West of Owensboro, mother and father-in-law, Frank and Betty Dowell, Sr. of Owensboro, brother and sisters-in-law, Frank and Glenda Dowell, Jr., Linda Walker, and Diana Dowell, all of Owensboro, and special friends, Frank Kessinger and Meredith Maddox and Family, all of Owensboro.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 19, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 10:00 A.M. Wednesday.
