Garrett Michael Elder

Garrett Michael Elder, 8 of Sorgho, received his angel's wings on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville, TN. Born on December 29, 2001 in Daviess Co., he was the son of Caroline and Jason Elder, who survive. He was in the 3rd grade at Sorgho Elementary School and was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church where he was an altar server. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Martha Englert Thompson in 2007.

Garrett was such a trooper and faught a heroic two year battle against his illness with more grace and strength than anyone could have ever imagined. He loved to play outside, especially baseball where he had been on teams in the Owensboro Catholic League. He also loved playing with his dogs, Cartman and Smokey and playing the Rock Band video game. He liked anything that had "John Deere" on it and loved riding with his granddad on his combine. In the last year and a half of his life, he was blessed to feel well enough to go to Disney World with his parents and brother and sister, make his first communion, play with his friends, and return to school. He was the little brother, Mom's baby, and Dad's buddy. Garrett was loved by so many, always ready with his mischievous smile and back to being a fun loving 8 year old.

He is also survived by his big sister, Marissa and his big brother Logan, his paternal grandparents, Earl and Patty Elder, maternal grandfather, Dan Thompson, aunts and uncles which include Pat Thompson, Joe Thompson, Richard Thompson, Philip (Kelly) Thompson, Butch Elder, Joe (Stephanie) Elder, and Barry (Kathy) Elder, all of Owensboro, Tom (Maryann) Thompson and Theresa (Doug) Roberts, all of Bowling Green, and Jeff (Elizabeth) Elder of Huntsville, AL, and a number of cousins and friends.

Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 27, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church with burial following in St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 8:30 A.M. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be 6:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
