G. Alton Nation

G. Alton Nation, 97, of 2175 S. Stratford Drive, Owensboro, died Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in McLean County on May 16, 1905 the son of Sam and Stella Thomason Nation. His wife, Oleta Read Nation; a son, Leonard R. Nation; and a daughter, Barbara Ann Nation, preceded him in death.

Mr. Nation retired as plant manager after 50 years at Velvet Milk and Ice Cream Co. He was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church and was a former member of Kiwanis.

Survivors include a son, Jim Nation of Owensboro; a daughter, Mary Jo Mansfield of Goodlettsville, TN; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harlan Nation of Buck Creek; and a sister, Mattye Bowman of Maryville, TN.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2002 at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Doctor David Nelson and Reverend Greg Hugley. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2002 and after 9:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Expression of sympathy may take the form of donations to a favorite charity.
