Franklin Dowell, Sr., 83, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born on August 23, 1930 in Owensboro, to the late Dennie and Cathleen Pryor Dowell. He had worked as an auto mechanic for Elton's Service Station, Ken's Service Station, and had his own station, Frank's Amoco, for a number of years. Franklin was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church. He loved working on his computer, photography, and spending time with his family. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Jean Penrod in 1997, a son, Dwayne Dowell in 1977, and two granddaughters, Marlinda Clark in 1975 and Angel Heather Clark in 1980.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Betty Jean Dowell, a son, Franklin (Glenda) Dowell, Jr. of Owensboro, four daughters, Connie Darlene McElwain, Linda Ann Walker, Diana Louise Dowell, and Vickie (Ron) Parker, all of Owensboro, 18 grandchildren, 43, great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren, a brother, Darrel Dowell of Ohio Co., and a sister, Virginia Vance of Owensboro.
Services will be 4:00 P.M. Saturday, January 25, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Visitation will be after 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
