Mrs. Frankie Mae Griffin Barron, 95, of Owensboro passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 at her home. Born in Henderson, KY, the daughter of the late Erma Dickey and William Hart Griffin, she graduated from Owensboro High School and attended the University of Kentucky. Mrs. Barron was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, the Mary Lou Phillips Sunday school class and United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Women's Guild, the Junior League of Owensboro, and the Daughters of the American Revolution and had served on the boards of the YWCA and YMCA. Her interests included tennis, needlepoint, golf, cards, and travel. She was also preceded in death by her brother, William Sloan Griffin.
Mrs. Barron is survived by her husband of 73 years, Jarred Mason Barron; her children, Dickey Sopchak (Mike) of Johnson City, NY; Bill Barron (Jo) of Owensboro, John Barron (Patti) of Prospect, and Sally Bryant (Malcolm) of Owensboro; her grandchildren Barron Sopchak (Kelly), Mary Moninger (Justin), Mason Sopchak (Sarah), William G. "Bo" Barron, II (Autumn), Codie Leath (Brad), Jay Barron (Alicia), Timmy Barron, Mary Angela Barron, Brian Barron, Adam Barron (Kaet), Melissa Gilmour (Scott), Griffin Barron, Sarah Clay Bryant, and Harrison Bryant; 13 great grandchildren plus three on the way; and her niece, Anne Sheriff; and cousin Sarah Jane Minton (Tony).
Mrs. Barron has been excellently cared for by loving caregivers for many years. The family wishes to acknowledge them as they have become like members of Mrs. Barron's family: Martha Ralph, Connie Howard, Debbie Mayfield, Heather Mayfield, Martha Taylor, Linda Massey, Nancy Jones and recent caregivers provided by Comfort Keepers. Hospice of Western Kentucky has provided excellent support in the last month, for which the family is very grateful.
The funeral service for Mrs. Barron will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the memorial fund of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Western Kentucky.
