Bill Coach Taylor
Francis P. Bill Taylor, Jr., 62, died Sunday, April 8, 2007 at his home in Louisville. He was born in Owensboro July 15, 1944 to the late Francis Frank Taylor and Beatrice Bozarth.
Coach Bill Taylor, as he was known to so many who loved, admired, and respected his strength, compassion, wit, and sense of humor, loved life. He enjoyed coaching, teaching, gardening, fitness, and above all spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Owensboro Christian Church.
He loved watching most sports, but his first love was the game of football. He received All-State honors while playing for Owensboro High School and later was Team Captain and voted Most Valuable Player during his football career at Western Kentucky University. After receiving his Masters degree from W.K.U. in 1969, he returned to teach at Daviess County High School in Owensboro. During his 27 year tenure at D.C.H.S., he coached football, swimming, and served as Athletic Director before retiring in 1996. Many students will remember his ability to motivate and the mentoring they received from this caring individual; so much that they dedicated their yearbook to Bill three times during his teaching career. He then worked several years for Roberts Motors where he left many close friends and customers.
In addition to his mother and father, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Margianne Taylor and two step-brothers, Ron Goddard and Phil Bozarth..
He is survived by his wife, Tyra Fullam Taylor of Louisville, his two sons, Wes Taylor of Bowling Green and Jon and wife Jamie Smith Taylor of Louisville, his 2nd mother, Marcelene Taylor of Owensboro, and a sister, Sally Taylor of Louisville, a step-brother, Charles Bozarth of Hawesville, two sisters-in-law, Sandy Goddard of Owensboro and Barrie Downs of Birmingham, Al., four nephews and one niece, Byron Richardson, Daniel Richardson, Jeff & Jason Goddard, and Julee Dowdy, two uncles, J. T. Taylor and Sonny Long, 15 cousins, and longtime loving partner and friend, Linda Taylor.
