Francis Edward Payne

Francis Edward "Eddie" Payne, Sr., 78, of Owensboro, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on October 23, 1931 in Daviess Co., Ky. to the late Mr. and Mrs. Lucian Payne. He was retired having worked for Medley Distillary for 26 years and Barton Brands for 10 years. He was of the Catholic faith having attended St. Stephen Cathedral and was a U. S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, raising a garden, and visiting with his neighbors. He loved making homemade ice cream and having cookouts with all his family especially getting to see his grandchildren. He was proud knowing that there were five generations living in his family. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Clementine Payne, a daughter, Debra Payne in 1972, and a son, Francis E. Payne, Jr. on March 8, 2010.

Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Janet S. Payne, two sons, Marcus Ray Payne, Sr. and wife Sandra of Maceo and Charles Hayden of Memphis, TN, two daughters, Frances Lee Vanover and husband Rick and Jacqueline F. Plunkett and husband Anthony, all of Owensboro, 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, a brother, Rowland Payne of Calhoun, and four sisters, LaGreta VanBussum of Knottsville, and Willa Mae Roberts, Mary Jane Young, and Alice Weise, all of Owensboro.

Services will be 12:05 P.M. Friday at St. Stephen Cathedral with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday and after 10:00 A.M. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
