Francis Eugene Head

Francis Eugene "Gene" Head, 80, of Owensboro, passed away on Wednesday November 3, 2010 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on July 16, 1930 in Daviess Co., Ky. to the late Herman and Willie Mae Abel Head. He attended St. Francis Academy and then enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1949 and served four years. He married Betty Jane Rush in 1958. He was retired from Green River Steel after 27 years and had served as a board member of the Green River Area Federal Credit Union for several years. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Maverick Sunday School Class. He was a past member of the Daviess Co. Fish and Game Association, Ducks Unlimited, and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed goose and duck hunting and skeet and trap shooting at the Isaac Walton Conservation Club in Indiana. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and Michael Head and a sister, Mary Ruth Chant.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Betty Jane Head, a son, Jeffrey Head and wife Dayna, two daughters, Julie Alvey and husband Tony and Marijane Sheldon and husband Tim, all of Owensboro, seven grandchildren, Sara Anderson of Oneida, TN, Kyle Alvey and wife Megan of Orlando, FL, and Matthew Pogue, Lauren Head, Rachel Sheldon, Olivia Sheldon, and Will Sheldon, all of Owensboro, a sister-in-law, JoAnn Head of Owensboro, a brother-in-law, Jerry Chant of Hammond, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 6, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Glenville Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 8:30 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
