Frances Tomes, 79, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born July 4, 1927 in McLean County, Mrs. Tomes was the daughter of the late Eck and Ola Myles Sandefur; was a member of the Owensboro Christian Church; and retired from General Electric after 36 years of employment. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Tomes in 1982 and her son, James Douglas Tomes in 1950.
She loved gardening, knitting, watching UK basketball and she was a great cook.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Chandler and her fiancJunior Drury of Owensboro; a grandson, James Roger Chandler of Owensboro; brothers, Alden Sandefur of Calhoun and Tommy Sandefur of Robards, nephews, Brian Sandefur of Owensboro and Tommy Sandefur of Eddyville, and nieces, Sandra, Linda and Judy, all of Calhoun.
Services are at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home with Myke Templeton officiating followed by burial in Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2007 and after 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association.
