Maple Mount Sister Frances Miriam Spalding, 94, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died May 9 at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 73rd year of religious life. She was a native of Bardstown.
Sister Frances Miriam never slowed down and was always available to help anyone in need. She loved praying with her sisters, was devoted to St. Therese of Lisieux and thrilled to see the St. Louis Cardinals win one more World Series.
Sister Frances Miriam taught at St. Joseph and Paul School, Owensboro (1960-64) and St. Mary Magdalene School, Sorgho (1980-81), and was principal at Immaculate School, Owensboro (1964-70). She was director of transportation at the Ursuline Motherhouse from 1981-85, and head of activities for retired sisters from 2003 until her retirement in 2007. She also ministered elsewhere in the Diocese of Owensboro, the Archdiocese of Louisville and in Missouri.
Survivors include nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Sunday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro, is in charge of arrangements.
