Frances Rebecca "Becky" Buckman Higdon, 75, went to God while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, July 28, 2016. She was born July 18, 1941 in Uniontown to Alvin and Veronica Eckmans Buckman. Becky lived all her adult life in Owensboro where she was a long time member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and was very active in the parish and devoted to her faith, family, and friends.
Becky worked as a payroll clerk at Green River Steel. She loved embroidery work and made many beautiful quilts that she shared with others. She enjoyed classical music and was a self-taught pianist. Children were always drawn to her. Becky was interested in sports and was happy watching her boys play ball and delighted in following her grandchildren in their activities and teaching them games and life's lessons.
Becky was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Carroll Higdon on July 30, 2014, her parents, Alvin and Veronica Buckman, two brothers, John Valence Buckman, Jr. and Thomas Joseph "Buddy" Buckman, and three sisters, Elizabeth Louise Buckman, Barbara Theresa Willett, and Mary Angela Clements.
Survivors include her three sons, Randy Higdon and wife Lori, Jeff Higdon and wife Stephanie, and Scott Higdon and wife Jennifer, all of Owensboro, seven grandchildren, Clayton, Haley, Macey, Reece, Ethan, Eva Grace, and Veronica, three sisters, Mary Ann Buckman of Maitland, FL, Eula "Diddy" Hagman and Margaret "Peggy" Hicks and husband Bobby, all of Owensboro, a brother, Andrew Buckman and wife Bettie of Owensboro, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 1, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with her nephew, Father Tom Buckman officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday with prayers at 6:00 P.M. and from 9:00-10:30 A.M. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, Becky has requested that masses be said for her soul and all the souls in Purgatory. Mass offering envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be placed at www.glennfuneralhome.com.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center and the Heartford House for the love and care given to Becky during her stays there. Also, special thanks to Comfort Keepers, Hospice, and to families and friends that were so attentive to her needs.
