Foster Howard Coffey, 69, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born March 26, 1939 in Daviess County to Ernie and Ethel Coffey. He was a Christian and he loved the Lord. He was a member of Masonville Baptist Church. He graduated from Utica High School in 1958 and was a member of the Utica Pirates Basketball team 1954 to 1958. He received a B.A. and Masters degree from Western Kentucky University, majoring in Art and Elementary Education. He retired from the Daviess County School System in 2002 after 36 years. He taught at Utica, Daviess county Middle School, Masonville and last at Burns Elementary.
He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, target shooting, leather working and his grandchildren. He was a member of the Single Action Shooters Society.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernie Coffey in 1995, and his sister, Retha Carolyn Coffey in 1975.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Brenda Maddox Coffey, a son, Chris Coffey, daughter, Tani Coffey, his mother, Ethel Foster Coffey, a brother, Bruce (Nina) Coffey, two grandchildren, Austin and Adriana Coffey, all of Owensboro. He dearly loved his family, especially his two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home with Revs, Kimbrough Simmons and Jeff Hendricks officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 12 p.m. Sunday.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the donor's favorite charity.
