Forrest Stovall

July 4, 1922 — February 17, 2008

Forrest "Smokey" Stovall, 85, of 3871 Garden Terrace, Owensboro, was called home by his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on February 17, 2008. He was a resident of Wellington Parc of Owensboro, and he was born July 4, 1922 in Graham, Kentucky, son of the late Earl and Eula Mae Stovall. He was a loving and caring husband to his wife and father to his children, an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Owensboro, he served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, Deacon and Elder. He was a current member of Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church in Owensboro, and was retired from Green River Steel Mill where he worked for 35 years. He was a sergeant in World War II, serving with the Third Marine Division, seeing action in the South Pacific, as part of the amphibitious reconnaissance missions. He was a founding member of the Owensboro Marine Corps League, a member of Yellow Banks Masonic Lodge, No. 957, Jo Daviess Chapter No. 32, Owensboro Council No. 34, the Owensboro Commandary, and a Kentucky Colonel. Recently he was named Green River Chapter's DAR 2007 Veteran Of the Year. He enjoyed life, his family, camping, golf, travel, reading, and was an avid fan of UK sports. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hildred, Paul and J.C. Stovall, and one sister, Earlene Stovall Downey.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Violet Hunt Stovall; his son, Forrest Michael Stovall and his wife, Vickie of Owensboro; his daughter, Patricia Stovall Bosley and her husband, Mike of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Michael Stovall and his wife, Lisa, Letisha Stovall LeBlanc and her husband, Kenneth, Eran Bosley, Lt. Josh Bosley of the U.S. Army Rangers, Captain Micah Bosley of the U.S. Air Force, JSTARS and his wife, Honoria; one beautiful great-granddaughter, Emma Anne Stovall; one brother, Harrell "Goldie" Stovall and his wife, Joann of Indianapolis, IN; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville, KY. Visitation will be 3:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday and after 9:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home. The Marine Corp League will have honors at 5:30 PM Tuesday and a Masonic service at 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Military services will be held at the Cemetery.
