Forest Leon Durham, 73, of 2836 Asbury Place, Owensboro, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at his home. He was born in London, Kentucky, on September 29, 1930 to the late Butler and Alma Miller Durham. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1947 and served on active duty nine years, was a member of the Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) as a Frogman, which later became the NAVY SEALS. He re-inlisted in 1977 and retired in 1990 from the Naval Reserve. He was a graduate of Brescia University in 1964, and taught special education in the Daviess County School System until 1970. He was employed at Whirlpool Corporation until retirement in 1990.
Survived by his wife of 47 years, Cleona Durham, three daughters, Jeanell and husband Bud Wethington of Ft. Myers, Florida, Leslie Durham of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Denise and husband Brian Steffey of Smyrna, Tennessee, four grandchildren, Ryan and Neil Wethington, of Ft. Myers, Mary Beth and Matthew Steffey of Smyrna, Tennessee, a brother, Butler Durham Jr., of Alabama, and sisters, Naomi Meurer of Michigan, and Dollie Pacific of Arizona.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 20, 2004 from 2 to 8 p.m. and Friday after 10 a.m. at Glenn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
