Floyd "Gabe" Mattingly, 83, of Maceo, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008 at his home. Born in Monette (Craighead County), Arkansas on October 28, 1924, he was the son of the late William and Verdie Luff Mattingly; was a self-employed farmer until his retirement; was a member of Maceo Baptist Church where he served as a trustee for many years; and was a Marine veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific. In addition, he was an accomplished artist and craftsman. Mr. Mattingly was preceded in death by brothers, Jessie Earl Mattingly, Ollie David Mattingly, and Billy Dean Mattingly.
Mr. Mattingly is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret "Dolly" Horrell Mattingly; a son, Charles David Mattingly of Mecco, FL; daughters, Margaret (and Gary) Black of Kinston, NC and Janet Lee of Lexington; grandchildren, D. Wayne (and Sue) Poole of Loveland, OH, Katy Poole of Lexington, and Brandon Mattingly of Owensboro; great-grandchildren, Mattingly Elizabeth, Emily Kate, and Caroline McKenzie Poole and Maeleigh Grace Randolph; a sister, Alice Mae Boone of Owensboro; a nephew, Billy (and Sandy) Boone of Owensboro; nieces, Janie (and Tim) Cecil of Philpot and Ann (and Steve) Kilroy of Ft. Mill, SC; extended family, the Albert and Francis Horrell family; and dear friends Holly Hall and Kerry Flinn.
Services are 12 noon Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Glenn Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Ford officiating followed by military honors at Owensboro Memorial Gardens rendered by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. Tuesday and after 11 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
