Floyd Lester Hooks

Floyd Lester Hooks,77, of Fairfield Glade, TN, formerly of Owensboro, passed away September 23, 2003. He was born April 30, 1926 in Paducah, KY the son of Floyd Lester, Sr. and Ileen Jones Hooks. He was a retired school teacher, a member of Central Baptist Church, and a US Navy veteran having served our country during WW II. Mr. Hooks served as deacon and Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years. He taught school in the Daviess County School System in Owensboro, KY for more than 31 years and was named Outstanding Teacher at Daviess County High School three different times. He also helped organize the football program at Daviess County High School. He loved to read, fish, garden and play golf.

He is survived by his wife, Vandalyn Hooks of Fairfield Glade, TN; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Rene Hooks of Owensboro, KY and Steve and India Hooks of Bowling Green, KY; sister, Hilda Hanson of Flemington, NJ; grandchildren, Laura Hooks, Patrick Hooks, Braxton Hooks and Lesley Hooks; ten nephews; three nieces; special relatives, Roy Hansen of Flemington, NJ and Jim and Roseann Lawrence of Silver Spring, MD.

His father and mother, sisters, Faye Claiborne and Portia Lynch and grandson, Charlie (Chad) Hooks, preceded him in death.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 25, 2003 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, September 26, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Walnut Memorial Baptist Church. His body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Family has asked that memorials be made to the Walnut Memorial Baptist Church Choir Program.
