Florine Varner Spencer, 85, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2011 at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born on May 16, 1926 in Grandview, IN to the late Ben and Odas Harris Varner. She was retired from teaching having taught in Boonville, IN, Cleveland, OH, Somerset, KY, and Owensboro. When she was teaching in Cleveland, Florine and her class were featured on the 700 Club Christian Network. She was a former Sunday School teacher and currently was a member of St. John United Methodist Church. She loved going on missions trips especially the one she went on to Jamaica. She graduated from the former Evansville College receiving her teaching degree and loved spending time reading.
Florine was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Varner, and two brothers, Nicholas Varner and William Rice.
Surviving are her two daughters, Beckie Flesher of Owensboro and Sally Youngblood and husband Elden of Owensboro, six grandchildren, Ashley Flesher, Ben Flesher, Michael Jackson, Alyson Youngblood, Amanda Likens, and Angela Youngblood, two great grandchildren, Mariah Jackson and Wyatt Likens, two brothers, Ben Varner, Jr. of Tell City, IN and Frank Varner of Louisville, a sister, Mary Jane Smith of Walton, KY, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in New Hope Cemetery at Newtonville, IN. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 P.M. Sunday and after 9:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home.
