Florence Mildred Thornton

Florence Mildred Thornton, 101, of Owensboro, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Hermitage Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Jefferson Co., KY to the late Joseph B. and Edith Ganote Zirnheld. She was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church and was retired as a bookkeeper for the Southern Baptist Convention. At the age of 13, she moved to Owensboro and eventually graduated from Owensboro Senior High School. She then moved back to Louisville when she was 32. Florence loved having her grandchildren come and stay with her. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl R. Thornton in 1993.

Surviving are her son, Donald Thornton and wife Gwynn of Owensboro, two grandchildren, Lisa Michelle Whittaker and husband Dan of Bryan, OH and Joseph Thornton of Owensboro, two great grandchildren, Madeline and Lucas Whittaker, and two sisters, Ethel Naegle of Ramsey, IN and Martha Hopper of Louisville.

Services will be 12 Noon Thursday, March 7 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Interment will be in Louisville Memorial Gardens East in Louisville. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
