Florence M. Thompson

Florence Thompson, 84, of Owensboro, left this life to meet her Lord, Savior and Creator on October 22, 2010. Florence was a loving and caring wife, mother, angel, sister, daughter, grandmother, nurse, friend, piano player, bass player, lover of music, singer, painter, counselor, worker of magic, cook, seamstress, and chauffeur, just to name a few. She was born to Lucille and Frank Wilhelm on February 6, 1926 in Nazareth, Texas, the oldest of 5 children. Florence graduated from Hereford High School and went on to nurses training attending Incarnate Word School in San Antonio, Texas. She obtained her degree at St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Amarillo. Florence married John E. Thompson on June 25, 1952 in Hereford, Texas after being "pen pals" during World War II. Florence was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother, and grandparents.

She is survived by her husband, John E. Thompson of Owensboro; one daughter, Margaret Huff and husband Bill of Arlington, Texas; two sons, Douglas Thompson and wife, Theresa of Fort Worth, Texas and Edward J. Thompson and wife,
Linda of Philpot, Kentucky; three sisters, Edna Marnell of Durant, Oklahoma, Sr. Fran Wilhelm of Owensboro and Leora Andriakos and husband, George of Cedarhurst, New York; a sister in law, Jean Wilhelm of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Denice Rush and husband Dax of Denver, Colorado, Lee Overstreet of Arlington, Texas and Garrett and Connor Thompson of Fort Worth, Texas; two step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, at Immaculate Catholic Church, with burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, with prayers beginning at 7:30 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Visitation on Tuesday will be after 8:30 AM at the funeral home.
