Fern Mallow Cole,80, of Ensor, gladly took Jesus' outstretched hands and He led her home on December 10, 2010 at Owensboro Medical Health System; they were not strangers as she was proud to have had known Him all her life. She was born in Beechwood, Indiana to the late Earl B. and Addie Morgan Mallow on October 28, 1930.
She grew up a country girl in southern Indiana. There she met the love of her life, Jack Cole in 1950, and they truly fulfilled their vows, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, until death they did part.
Fern felt she was abundantly blessed all through her life. She always supported her husband and family in whatever endeavors they encountered. Even after finally settling in Owensboro and completing her education with a bachelor's degree from Brescia College, Fern's happiness was found trough her selflessness and tireless giving to others. Whether volunteering at a local nursing home or making and giving away excellent candy, she always found a way to go the extra mile and make every day life seem special.
Fern maintained that her greatest achievements and blessings throughout her lifetime were her family. She was most proud of her husband, daughter and son-in-law, and her two grandsons. Her quiet and gentle ways influenced their lives and she was instrumental in raising both grandsons who adored her.
She was a member of Owensboro Christian Church. She enjoyed keeping her home spotless, working in her yard, watching birds, and loving her cats.
Left behind are her husband of 60 years, Dr. Jack Cole, her daughter and husband, Kenny of Thruston, grandsons, Zachary Clark of Louisville and Aaron Clark of Thruston, her beloved sister, Edie Sturgill and her husband Earl of Beechwood, Indiana, and her niece and nephew, Jack and Ruth Edgerton of Newburgh, Indiana.
Memorial services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation wil l be from 2 to 4 p.m. The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the charity of their choice.
