Ewing Gray Rascoe, 79, died on March 1, 2015, in Owensboro, KY. He was born on October 26, 1935, in Trigg County, KY, and moved with his family to Daviess County, KY, in 1944 where he attended Sorgho Consolidated School. He graduated from Daviess County High School in 1953, received his B.S. in Business from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1957, a Master's in Education from the University of Kentucky, a Rank I in Education and certification as an administrator from Western KY University.
Ewing was a principal and a teacher with the Daviess County School System for 34 years. He first taught at Sorgho school, transferred to West Louisville Junior High where he taught eighth grade and served as head teacher, became Assistant Principal, then Principal, at Daviess County Junior High School, and then became Assistant Principal at Daviess County High School. In 1973, he became Principal of West Louisville Elementary School until his retirement in 1992. Subsequently, he substituted and volunteered by tutoring students in math at the Owensboro Detention Center, Burns Middle School, Burns Elementary School, Audubon Elementary School, Sorgho Elementary School, and West Louisville Elementary School.
For over 50 years Ewing served as a pianist and organist at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was a member. He taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. Later in life he moved his membership to First Baptist Church of Owensboro.
Ewing was a Kentucky Colonel, received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army, and served for over a decade as an Army Reservist. He was active with Gideons International of Owensboro until 2014.
He accepted Jesus at a young age and was devoted to God and his family.
Ewing was predeceased by his parents A.J. (1971) and Lucille Elizabeth (Gray) Rascoe (1994) and siblings Mildred Foster (2014) and Ralph Rascoe (2014).
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Jean (Rafferty) Rascoe; daughter Mary Jean Rascoe (Terry L. Free) of Benton, KY; son Daniel Gray Rascoe (Wilma) of Surfside, FL; and granddaughter Lela Jean Free of Benton, KY; Siblings: Betty (William) Harris and Linda Rascoe of Owensboro, KY; Robert "Bobby" (Nancy) Rascoe and Martha (Mike Sr.) Kenney of Bowling Green, KY, and Gerald (Barbara) Rascoe of Scottsville, KY, and many nephews and nieces.
The funeral service will be 12:00 noon at First Baptist Church on Saturday March 7, 2015. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 7:30 pm at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory on Friday and after 11 at the church on Saturday.
